First I have to say that I always liked the concept of Vector Graphics because of their efficiency and ability to be scaled, rotated, skewed and what not without losing quality.
Lately there is a trend to integrate SVG on the desktop (Linux DE's adopting it and also the SVG compatible Tracker in Zeta) but there is no SVG support for the standard BeOS R5 user at this time.

We all know how important to BeOS (and now Zeta) is the Japanese community. They've adopted BeOS early on and through thick and thin, stuck with it. But one problem that potentially kept Japanese users away was the input method used in Mozilla, thus preventing them (in a way) of using the latest browser technology in BeOS, or at least keeping them away from it.

Finally this problem is going away. Click below for details.

Team Maui's website has come to life. The team's goal, which includes among others Peter Stegemann and Markus Maier, is the creation of "killer apps for BeOS+Zeta". They already released a few of their projects over at BeBits. There's SteGOmann, Shoots and DeskbarEyes.

It's always good to see new development teams for BeOS (two heads are always better than one). Let's hope they can achieve their goal and create a truly killer app.
David Reid posted in his blog about his idea of converting the BeBook from html to xml.

He has already taken the project off the starting lane and has "written a perl script (using the very helpful HTML::TreeBuilder module) that can convert the BeBook html into valid xml documents" along with more progress being done.

Full BeBook conversion won't be reached right now, so he'd like volunteers to help spotting and fixing errors. Read the full posting by following the link above.

Update: David has posted a follow-up to yesterday's entry. with some clarifications and explanations.
Xentronix, makers of Refraction and SampleStudio (though now in OpenSource), have released earlier today details about the upcoming Beta 8 of Refraction.

For Beta 8 they have been focusing on "the tools, some more GUI work and of course bug fixes". They have also done internal rewrites to improve stability.

You can see two screenshots, the first one showing the results of those rewrites and the second showing general GUI improvements.
BeZilla has come a step closer to having all new Tinderboxes running today but we still need your help, read more to find out how.

yT has published their second article aimed at delevelopers, this one also written by Alan Westbrook and the subject is "Send messages in a post PostMessage() API".

So if you're a developer (or thinking of becoming one), head over and start reading. It can only improve your code.

Update: As pointed out by Jeanmarc, Dianne Hackborn, a former Be, Inc engineer as replied to the article.
As was announced, Be, Inc's transfer agent Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. will begin mailing notices and letters of transmittal to all stockholders of record, which date was set by Be, Inc as March 15th 2002. These notices will inform the stockholders how to change their stocks for cash.

In the initial distribution, each stock will be worth USD $0.58, without interest. Any stockholder that had transactions dated after March 15th 2002 will have to talk to their own brokers to find out how (if possible) to exchange their stocks for cash.

So there you have it folks. The stockholders finally know what's coming their way, 58 cents. Especially for those who bought (and stuck with them) the stocks right after the IPO, it must be painful to be reading this...

Axel D?rfler (also known as "He Who Is Trapped In Basement"), has posted his latest progress with the OBOS bootloader.

David Reid has updated his blog with a new entry, this one talking about networking tools in modern Operating Systems.

He mentions one true aspect of it, "The lack of networking ability will stop someone buying an os, but the fact that it has network abilities isn?t a point in it?s favour - it?s expected.".
