OSNews posted tonight that Haiku's app_server can now run OpenTracker, a milestone in its development. Though still unusable, due to frequent crashes, it's a sign of development and of things to come.

If you want to try it, get a Haiku image from here (Phillipp Schmid's blog) and run it on VMWare or Virtual PC. And of course, for the voyeurs in you, here are screenshot one and screenshot two. Enjoy.
yellowTAB has just announced an agreement with Berry Japan, which has become the exclusive distributor of ZETA for Japan, which will start shipping, according to yT, tomorrow.

yellowTAB's CEO Bernd Korz had this to say:
"Japan is a very important market for yellowTAB and our flagship product ZETA," comments yellowTAB CEO Bernd Korz. "We have been exploring the Japanese scene for quite some time now, and we are ready to move to the next stage of market development. As our exclusive distributor, Berry Japan will assist yellowTAB in developing sales channels for ZETA, they will be our liaison with our various Japanese partners, and will also provide local after-sales support to our current and future user base in Japan.(...)"
A new site has been setup and has all the information users could ask for, including ordering ZETA online and support links. That site is ZETA-OS.

It's an important date for yT and a very important move on their part, seeing how a big (and important) market Japan has always been. Let's hope sales go well for yellowTAB and ZETA. For the full press release, click on the first link.

No, I didn't accidentally write Mockup twice. Pier Luigi Fiorini, Mockup's leader, sent me a new mockup of the GUI, and according to him, while still needing a bit of work, that's how Mockup will look like.

He also mentioned that a release shouldn't be too long down the road, along with some other touches and retouches, he needs to get the window manager working. But of course, "too long down the road" is subjective, a release will happen when it's ready (put those stones away!). So enjoy the screenshot and we'll bring you more Mockup news as they happen.

BeDoper news has learned that a former, prominent Be Inc. employee is now working for Microsoft on the Longhorn project. We were able to learn more details in our exclusive interview.

BeDoper Article.
yellowTAB has just published a new job opening at their site, this time it's for a Graphics Development Engineer. The job description is to, among others, work on developing and maintaining "graphical rendering in the ZETA" and to "implement new graphical features".

They ask for a minimum 4 years professional experience, and familiarity with UNIX-like environments. As always, the job location is Mannheim, Germany. If you're up to it, go for it and apply.
A few days ago Nvu R1.0 (June 28) was released for the officially supported platforms Windows, MacOS X and Linux. The french developer LoLL has once before done a port of one of the earlier developer releases, and he is now working on a port of the finale release to ZETA. He has also made builds of Firefox and Thunderbird, and added support for ZETA's locale kit to the Mail Daemon Replacement kit.

One of the key developers of Nvu, Daniel Glazman, published on his blog, information about the numbers of downloads compared to 1.0PR, and they show that 1.0 has been downloaded between 5 and 6 times more on a daily basis!

As Macromedia's Dreamweaver has become more and more expensive with every release, the free Nvu is most welcome. And on the ZETA platform it will also be the only easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor available. LoLL, we are looking forward to try your port!

Over at the HaikuOS site, Philippe Houdoin announced that there's a new Kit coming for Haiku, the OpenGL kit. It was brought to life this Sunday when he imported part of the MESA BeOS port into Haiku's tree. He lists the roadmap has featuring:
  • GL API updated to 1.5
  • builtin SGI's GLU API
  • builtin GLUT API, updated to 3.7
  • addons-based renderers
  • a software-only default renderer addon, powered by Mesa3D
  • and (soon, according to usual Rudolf developing/crusing speed!) a first hardware-accelerated renderer addon for nVidia gfx cards :-) [Ed. note: who's progress you can follow here at ICO as always]
We remind you that BeOS' OpenGL implementation was up to version 1.1, so while not still 2.0, it's a big progress, but of course, long way to go. To get the MESA BeOS port, check this page.
